Current Projects
Ten years ago, autism was diagnosed in 1 out of 10,000 children. Currently, autism is diagnosed 1 out of every 200 children. Other nonprofit organizations focus on the cause and the cure. The Autism Education Network is focused on education interventions that help children with autism reach their full potential.
Autism Education Committee–Santa Clara County, CA
In response to the autism epidemic and resulting special education crisis in northern California, the Network has formed the Autism Education Committee. This committee of concerned parents and autism service providers is assessing the public education programs and services available to children in Santa Clara County between the ages of two to six years of age. Their aim is to propose a more effective and appropriate education model that achieves the following goals:
-
Create a smooth and cohesive transition from early education programs (three years old and under) such as the Early Start Program and Individual Family Services Plans (IFSPs) to school-age programs or Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
-
Set benchmark measures of effectiveness for educational services and develop programs which meet those benchmarks
-
Reduce the cost of due process hearings for the County
-
Improve Kindergarten preparedness and therefore, reduce long-term special education costs
